About
Elizabeth Levy

I've been writing
and publishing books for over thirty years and sometimes now I meet kids whose parents read my books when they were children! I have written over 80 books, a number that continues to
surprise me, as it surprises me how long I've been at it.
Over the
years they've printed lots of my books -- over five million of them.
I love to
try writing different types of books -- everything from funny mysteries
to novels about kids who get in trouble to history.
One of the
most pleasant surprises about writing is that I've been invited to travel
all over the country and even the world speaking to children, teachers,
and librarians. I've made some wonderful friendships and gotten lots of
ideas for my books. One of the most special treats is that kids have drawn
wonderful pictures of one of my favorite characters, Fletcher. Here is Mordicai
Gerstein's drawing of him from Something Queer in Outer Space.
We're about to do new books that are going to be starring Fletcher. Here
also is a drawing that a student did for me of Fletcher in India.
I grew up
in Buffalo, New York, then went to Brown University, where I majored in
history. When I graduated, I came to New York City and worked for ABC-TV
and then for Senator Robert Kennedy. I have lived in New York ever since,
and I love it. I know all the best places for salami, I have run four marathons,
and I have completed many 5-borough bike tours, so I think I really know this place well.
| At certain times of the year, I can be found out at Shea Stadium watching my team, the New York Mets. I have always loved baseball. Here's a picture of me with Mr. Met! |

Mostly I
enjoy hanging out with my friends. We spend lots of time going to movies
or plays, playing sports, having meals together.
When I'm
alone and not writing, I am usually reading. I read mysteries a lot, always
have, which is probably why many of my books are mysteries.
